It is made up by a group of nerve structures located outside the central nervous system and, according to its functions and components, it is sub-divided into two systems: the somatic and the autonomous nervous system.
This system is in charge of gathering and transmitting the information detected by the senses, and also of sending instructions that allow the voluntary movement of the muscles.
In the case of the peripheral nervous system, some of the more serious pathologies have to do with its different nerves and are caused by infections or injuries that afflict them.
